The Lakers Program

Participation Options

The program begins with an Instructional Camp consisting of (10) 2-Hour sessions. This costs $260.00 which covers Player Registration, Insurance and a Lakers T-Shirt.

At the conclusion of the Instructional Camp, if elected at Registration, player will participate in (3) 2-hour tryout sessions for possible placement on a travel team. If selected for placement, the Travel Team costs an additional $235.00.

  • BOYS TRAVEL PROGRAM Runs late March through July. Travel team fees are due in full by 04/30/16.
  • GIRLS TRAVEL PROGRAM Runs mid April through July. Travel team fees are due in full by 04/30/16
  • (Total cost is $260 camp + $235 travel =$495)

If elected at Registration, a player can forgo the instructional camp and participate in the (3) 2-hour tryout sessions for possible placement on a travel team at a cost of $110.00 due at Registration. If selected for placement, the Travel Team costs an additional $385.00.

Program Goals

  • Develop Character, Sportsmanship and Fair Play while promoting basketball in our region.
  • Establish multi-level programs to enable higher skill level development.
  • Emphasize developing advanced players with highly competitive travel teams.
  • Provide opportunities for players to showcase their talents at regional and out of region tournaments.

Your Program Dollars at Work

All program fees are applied toward the following:

Regional and Tournament Competition

If selected for team placement:

  • Teams will be comprised of a minimum of 10 participants.
  • If numbers allow, 'A' & 'B' teams will be made
  • Emphasize developing advanced players with highly competitive travel teams.
  • Travel participants will receive equal playing time in regional games. In tournament games, emphasis is placed on winning. Playing time will be based solely on ability, effort and work ethic demonstrated by the player on the practice court. Players who do not give full effort during practice will have reduced playing time. Only AAU registered players who have paid in full may play in regional and tournament games.

Program Expectations

The full cooperation and participation of Players, Parents and Coaches is necessary to assure a quality experience for all. Participation in program activities is contingent upon meeting the following responsibilities:

Player Responsibilities:
  • Participating full in practice (100% Effort).
  • Abiding by the player 'Rules of Conduct' (Players receive at 1st practice).
  • Displaying mutual support and teamwork.
  • Cooperation with Coaching Staff and Volunteers.
  • Conducting oneself in ways which will enhance the stature and positive reputation of the Lakers Program.
  • Failure to comply with program rules and expectations may result in disciplinary actions by the Board of Directors.
Parental Responsibilities:
  • Assuring the player fulfills their responsibilities to the workout sessions and team.
  • Agreeing to promote the players 'Rules of Conduct'.
  • Leaving the coaching to the AAU coaching staff.
  • Volunteering to help team activities, shootouts, special events, and tournaments.
  • Providing primary medical insurance.
  • Contributing by transporting players to and from tournaments, helping with hotel supervision, food and meal arrangements, and other necessary activities to ensure smooth operations on the road.
  • Parents are requested to assist with the Lake Champlain Lakers Home Tournament.
Parent Representative:

Each team will select a Parent Representative to answer any questions and concerns of program participants, assist with the coordination of travel arrangements for away tournaments and coordinate volunteers to work the Lakers Home Tournament. If you are interested in becoming a Parent Representative, please contact the Lakers General Manager.

Travel and Insurance:

Membership in the AAU program provides gym liability and secondary insurance under specified conditions for AAU sanctioned practices, games and tournaments. Travel and lodging will be the SOLE responsibility of the player(s) and parent(s). A list of lodging suggestions and accommodations will be provided.
